Well i mentioned i want to build a vacuum forming machine. Anyhow while the vacuum pump setup is a work in progress, that can now proceed since i picked up a shipment of extra bits and pieces from Niagara this week, one of the things i had ordered was a book on building a vacuum forming machine.

I have a different design in mind but wanted to have a reference for some mold tips etc that i have not found much of via the web.

Bought Vincent Gingerys book for a few $$$ and my initial thought was not great. But then i started digging through the detail in the book and his design and given all the research i have done to date, this guy has a pretty clever sheet clamping technique that i will take and use on my version of this type of machine.

Most designs i have seen dont cater to allowing variable size plastic to be clamped all round. This one is pretty basic and clever.

Half way down the page there is a video going back to days of very basic instructional videos its kind of a call back the past movie. How things have changed.
 
Ted i am going with a version i found on build stuff but will adapt it in a few places to suite my desired size outcome.

The guy who created the plans also has put a kit together for the elements so the heating part is done properly.

my plan is to have my vacuum pump be portable and be able to be used for multiple purposes not dedicated to one use.

But the book while being a bit out of date in terms of latest approaches has lost info in it in my view.

I specifically will take from it the adjustable clamping idea and adapt it to my own version of the build stuff unit. Dont see why one wants to have to use a specific size sheet each time unless it suites the purpose for the machine.
 
Wow. That's a pretty impressive looking machine. You should be able to turn out some cool stuff with that. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
