Rob mentioned fruit bowls on one of the other threads. Brings up the question "what is a good fruit bowl shape"? Interested to hear anyone here's thoughts on the matter.

To start off, this one is imho the fruit bowliest of the fruit bowls I've done. Its a simple shape but I'm somewhat inordinately pleased with it just because it seems so shape apropos. Something about it screams "fill me with fruits and put me on the table". 11.5"x3.5" with 1/4" thick wall.

One of the other ones I did - not so much. Loml graciously referred to it as a "chinese hat" - which it does indeed resemble.

I agree with you on the first bowl, and although I'm not sure I see the hat thing in the second bowl, I like the delineation of the foot on the first one better. :thumb:

Here's my submission for a fruit bowl. It's salvaged elm, about 18" across (too big to be practical), and I think the pedestal is too tall. One of these days I'll mount it back on the lathe and shorten the pedestal.
