We had a brief drop in temps last night after a storm so I jumped at the chance to get out to the shop and turn something. I have a BIG pile of burr oak from a tree taken down in our backyard so I grabbed a crotch blank I'd cut a few weeks ago. It was starting to check kinda bad, but looks solid enough to give it a go. Had to turn away quite a bit of punky sap wood, but it still ended up about 10" in diameter. Has some checks in it still and will probably warp a bunch...but that's what I like about burr oak. I ebonized the bottom with my 6yr old mix of vinegar and steel wool after oiling the top. Only took about 45 mins and by that time the heat and humidity had returned so I only got the one turned.
