Last fall, as the weather got colder, and I was engaged in makeing candlesticks for my daughter, and not feeling well anyway, I started a baseball bat. I have some 3" square maple bat blanks, so I put one on the lathe and started turning it square (note to self: cut the corners off next time.) So today I got the lathe started after sharpening tools yesterday, and reduced the head end of the bat to rough size. I am planning to do this one as quickly as possible, as it is a practise bat for a job of making a bat for the nice young man at the Wood Shed. This one goes to my son-in-law, unless it turns out really well.

My chip collector which I installed last year is working OK, but a little the worse for wear after the winter. I'll post a picture here in a day or two.

Feels good to be making shavings again. I must have done a decent job sharpening, as I was getting 8" shavings off the chisel.
