now that i've got the spinny stuff out of the way, back to the flatlands. this is one of the furniture projects that got started last year, but had to hold up because of winter. so far, identified and set aside the parts for the bedside table. next it will be planing the parts down to thickness.

back at it again! got the drawer frames glued up, the top sanded on both sides (sander worked pretty good for a change), and glued up the 2 side frames. tomorrow it will be cutting the rabbets for the drawer frames, and adjusting the back frame.

got a little bit more done today. worked out the details of the drawer pulls. the ends of the posts that stand proud of the rails will be sanded flush with the rails.

a good bit of progress today. started off with sanding the ends of the drawer pull posts flush with the bails. next bit of fun was cutting the taper on the 4 legs, and sanding the blade marks off (band saws are funny that way). with that out of the way, set up the dado stack, and cut the rabbets in the side frames, and the rabbets in the inside corners of the legs. with that scary bit out of the way, did a test fit of the drawer frame to the side frames. needed to use the sander to take off just a cat hair, for a perfect fit. turned the assembled frameworks on it's feet, and dropped the top frame in place. then added the legs (now you see why the rabbets). then adjusted the top, drawer faces, and kick plate, and set those in place. now it is starting to really look like a bedside table.

moving this one along. since i found my double sided tape (and a boatload of shims that decided to come out of hiding), i decided to see how it looks with the pulls temporarily attached. then trimmed up the top a bit more, and it looks a bit better to me. then, i took the whole thing apart, and routed the rabbets for the panels for the back, and side frames.

measured, cut, and fitted the panels to the frames today. looks pretty good, but i'm going to have to add a small shim to the back frame, as it turned out to be just a touch undersized. after that, it will be sanding, dying, and assembling. with the drawers being last.

I like the contrast in the two colors. Also, way to sneak in a stealth glimpse of your new lumber hauler in the third photo. :D
