about a week or so ago, rennie asked if i could help him with a sign. he sent a picture of one that they liked, and the dimensions that could be played with. using vcarve, i got a prototype knocked together, and with a bit of tweaking, the final design was approved by the powers that be. did up a quick test on mdf, to see how it would look, and to work out any gremlins. then, it was on to the real deal. got the mahogany (yes, mahogany) blank set up in the cnc machine, and the fun began. first with the numbers, then the decorative outline, and last but not least, the profile cut. now all that is left to do, is to box it up, and send it back to rennie for the final finish.

Looking good so far, will be looking out for more pictures once it is finished & installed :)

I generally don't do test cuts especially for jobs like this, the toolpath preview you get with Vectric software is very accurate so I know exactly how the finished job will look provided I don't make any mistakes lol, saves me quite a bit of time not to mention the material saving :)

Here's the sign with a coat of primer.

I can hear the screams! Primer over mahogany?!?!

Sorry, but the boss wants it painted. I had many small strips of mahogany in my shorts bin and decided to glue up a panel for the sign knowing that it was a good wood for outdoor use. Tomorrow we do the finish painting.

As promised here is the finished project. After two coats of primer and two coats of black exterior paint Jan used an artist brush to do the numbers. I have mounted it to the house using a pair of rare earth magnets. I wanted the sign to be easily removable for touchups and repair if necessary. Also I could not bring myself to drill holes into the face of the sign!
