as you know, after the wine bottle holders were cut, i was left with some pretty generous leftovers. to make a long story short, it has been driving me to distraction, trying to figure out what to do with them. so, today i started salvaging them. first i cut down the rounded part, to just past the hole for the curved wine bottle holder, then, after cutting all 10 of them, cut to just past the hole for the angled wine bottle holder, then cut the rest of them. now the fun part, what to make with the solid block that is left....

finished this off today. got them all to the same height. then cut the 7 degree angles on both ends, and cut the sides at 7 degrees on the table saw. then it was mark, and drill the holes. after sanding, it was on to the stain, sealer, and shellac. not too bad a save from the junk pile.

Nothing like using up the last pig squeal. I try to glue left overs to make bigger chunks to make little chunks. Sometimes they even come out ok.
Really a nice project Dan.

Neat, another idea i do is make a small base for flags.
I give every new client a flag for their desk, remind them where they live and how lucky they are to live here. Very easy to use that chunk of wood to make a simple 8 inch flag holder.
Buy some flags and selling it as a kit at your craft shows.
