I banged this Step/Stool thing together from my buddy Tim, a photographer.
This time of year he takes pictures of kids dressed up in traditional Japanese clothing. This is called...

"Shichi-Go-San"
This is a traditional rite of passage and festival day in Japan for three- and seven-year-old girls and three- and five-year-old boys, held annually on November 15 to celebrate the growth and well-being of young children.

He covers the stool with a black cloth and stands the kids on this in front of the shrine. This produces a very nice picture, I'm told.
He had a small stool, but you can only safely stand one child at a time on the stool, he asked me to make it 60cm long by 40cm wide and 30 cm tall (24" x 16" x 12")

I added some holes for lightness
The plywood is 12mm thick (1/2") and is actually the boards from my old drill press stand.
Took a couple of hours.
Cheers
