First Bowl

Nice looking, Gayl. What wood is this and what's the size of it? I like the grain of it. Depending on it's size, I might have called it a salt or spice box. But regardless, the form and finish work is nicely done. End grain turning can be tough depending on the wood and the form you are going for.

Hi Gayl! Looking at the grain pattern as well as the wood color, I would tend more to say red oak, the northern variety. I've turned a lot of white oak and looks nothing like that at all. But, either way, it's a fine piece of work. I would be more inclined to name it either a small jar or salt/spice box with the size that it is. But, what's in a name?
