So there is a youngster that has taken on the task of restoring an old sailing boat.

Well he is looking at replacing the keel and purchased two enormous pieces of Purple Heart which he is going to scarf joint together.

I can’t begin to imagine what the wood cost.

I really admire the guy for taking on the project. It’s an enormous task.

That was good. Thanks. I did a quick and dirty calculation and figured the big timber alone was about $5,000. Uffda!
 
He really worked his butt off doing those scarfs. I think a router planer sled would have knocked it out in one fourth the time, but I give him credit for a nice tight looking joint.
 
I see several youtube channels of young people busting their humps to get what they want.

It just warms my heart.

I watched a young couple "Salt and Tar" build a boat of their dreams. I also watch some young "off grid" couples building their dreams. Fantastic stuff. Renews my faith in the young. Wish I could be there with them.

Replacing a keel on a boat like that is no easy task. I grew up around stuff like that and I have worked on boats. That's hard work.
 
I've become captivated by these videos. I've gone through them and watched them all from the start of this series. This is quite a massive project to take on but he has a can-do spirit and keeps moving right along. It will be enjoyable to continue watching him along this journey.
I heard him say in one of his videos that the purpleheart beams he bought cost about $6000.00.
