I've been playing around with the Twilight2 plugin (free Hobby version) to see if I can get a better visual of how the light placement will work in my living room project. I've just been going through the basic tutorial this morning and really like the results, though I'll have to figure out what the real world specs are to apply to my project yet. There is a setting under the Environment tool bar icon, where you have to uncheck Sun to see the lighting.

So in this example I've placed a light above the entertainment center and the other two pics are of a point light and spot light examples.

Yep. It is free. Also get and install the SU2KT extension. The extension makes it easy to add lights and then export to KT automatically.

Two lights for this one.

If you want a little demo of how I use it, I could do that with you.
