Many of us believe here at Family Woodworking that acronyms can often be confusing, and would prefer not to use too many of them, since it is the intent of this forum to share woodworking information, and the more clearly that information is stated, the better for all the members. (Especially the newcomers and the folks around the world who don’t speak as much English as the rest of us.) Nonetheless, it’s inevitable that acronyms will be used here at Family Woodworking.

It has been suggested that we post a list of acronyms, in order to help people figure out what others are saying. This list will be edited and will grow over time, and if you have any additions to suggest, please send them to one of the forum Moderators or Administrators in a private message. Keep in mind we’re not trying to define every cute acronym out there…we’re mainly interested in those that get used in the woodworking world, or are used a lot in the Family Woodworking forums (and those that conform to the Forum Rules and Code of Conduct). For general acronym help, you can use a site like www.acronymfinder.com.

Here’s the list so far, and it'll get adjusted over time:

geeze vaughn now i`m really confused:eek: ......guess i`ll just stick with my misspellin`.

Yeah, I'm with you on that Tod, your misspellin is a whole lot easier to understand than trying to figure out acronyms. Seems easier to just spell out what you're trying to say in the first place.:dunno:

First Turn

Hello Turners: First Timer, Can't wait to get turning. Trying to learn as much as possible. There is so much info out there, only problem, is that most is too advanced for a beginner. Any advice is welcome. THANKS; BRAD

Howdy Brad. My suggestion would be to hang around the Lathe Land forums here and ask all the questions you can think of. We were all first timers at one point or another, so we likely had a lot of the same questions.

And if one of us gives an answer you don't understand (too advanced), just holler and we'll figure out what parts we didn't explain fully.

hmm, under these rules, my pen/pencil finish is blodnash (boiled linseed oil, denatured alcohol, and amber shellac), and i don't have an assortment of items, i have akos (all kinds of stuff)...

geez... y'all sure do have an awful lot of accronyms... you are either trying to create a new elite woodworkers only language or you are really lazy typists =P

Thanks Vaughn. I knew a few of them but jeez! Those are too many ! Specially when I also have to remember those of my american coleagues when they come to make presentations or similar. BTW who is David Marks???
