This root ball is a couple of blocks away from a kitchen that I'm doing,

This pic is of the same type of tree,

And these are different pics of yet another tree of the same type,

What type of tree is this? Should I try to get this root ball?

Thanks very much for your help and info.

Dunno about the tree species, but that root ball could have some fun stuff in it. It'd take a serious pressure washing and still probably eat a chainsaw blade or two, but I'll bet there's something cool inside. From the looks of the pic, it'd take a lot of chain saw work, but you'd likely get several lathe-sized pieces.

For flatwork, there's probably also some cool stuff in there, too, just need a couple of big saws (chain and band) to get it cut up.
