donno wood... very punky and hard to work with..
3 in opening, 3in high, how do i measure the dia on these things?? anyway poly and buffed. critique pls!! i really need it on this... I know the opening should be smaller..

Great job, Ben. Punky wood can be real frustrating, but in this case it looks like it was worth the effort.

To measure the diameter, I use a ruler. :rofl:

Seriously, I just hold a ruler on top of or beside the piece, and eyeball it from there. If you really wanted to get accurate, you could hold a board on each side and measure between the boards.
 
Looks like it was worth the effort and fuss. Turned out quite nice!:thumb:

If you have a set of turning calipers, just set it for the largest diameter and measure the result.;)
 
Well Ben, if you think the opening is too large, turn a collar for it and make the opening smaller :D

That chunk of wood looks like a handful to try your first HF in, you sure do head for the deep end and jump right in don't you :D :thumb:
