Building a crib out of walnut, so no stain needed. What kind of clear finish would be safe for the baby? Would watco oil work? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I like Shellac also, as it is totally food safe, in fact most pills have a coating of shellac on them so they don't fall apart in your mouth, and most chocolate is also coated with shellac, so you don't melt it when you touch it.

The other nice thing about shellac, IMHO is that you can easily repair it down the road.

Cheers!

it`s a catylized lacquer that must be sprayed....pretty durn tuff! i don`t like using it on stuff `cause it`s catylized but i doubt a 3-4y/o could hurt it let alone an infant......most of your higher end kitchens that are site finished have cab acrylic sprayed on `em.....there`s not much that`ll hurt it short of knifes or real hot stuff.
