Wood Rack Done

Shame on me

I've determined the source of my problem with the 1/2" iron pipe not fitting into the 13/16" hole. It's pretty obvious actually. "I have met the enemy and it is me"...

When I 'casually' measured the O.D. of the 1/2" and 3/4" pipe I got 3/4" and 1" respectively. Wrong!

The 3/4" pipe actually measured 1.05" which is why the 1-1/16" hole fit great since it is 1.063".

However, the 1/2" pipe that I thought was 3/4" O.D. was actually .866" and a 13/16" bit is only .8125". Consequently the bit that comes the nearest without being under is a 22mm.

Regards,
George

I don't remember what size bit I used for the 1/2" pipe in my rack but I do know I drilled the holes somewhere between 3 & 5 degrees angled up so that when the lumber was loaded on it that set flat.

There is 100 BF of white oak on this rack as well as misc. other wood.

.
Mine is leaned at 10 degrees, it works great and I used
1/2 pipe, then got pcv to cover the pipe. WOW would do it again, again :thumb:
