I reached the conclusion there is no Apple Wood in town. Anyone purchased wood on The Bay ? Seen it offered but haven't taken the chance yet. Opinions ?

I've bought a number of turning blanks on eBay. I've had a couple that weren't real great, but they've always been as they were described. (The "not great" pieces were spalted wood, and to his credit the seller said they were punky and would be tricky to turn.) I just pay attention to the shipping charges, and bid no more than I'd be willing to spend for a piece.

Haven't bought any lumber there, though. I'd think it would be about the same...know your shipping costs up front and factor that into the total price.

Hey Steve,
Haven't bought wood on the bay, but there are lots of companies that will send apple wood mail order. For some real wood porn, try

www.hearnehardwoods.com

The established companies generally will do their best to get you what you need. Call them up and explain your project and what you are looking for.

Another thing to try is

www.woodfinder.com

where you can search by species and see who has it locally or mail order.

So, whatcha building?

LOL ! Just fed up with . . .

the little saw I use for drywall and " key-hole " situations. Did SWMBO's Aunt's ceiling last weekend and the saw finally got my goat. Been meaning to build a key-hole " my way ". Its time. And if you're going to make one . . . well, you know. Might as well be applewood and Disston scrap.
