Pre-stained several pieces before assembly. Now I need to attach some things to the stained areas. Is the oil based stain going to cause me a problem with glue adhesion??

Yes!

For good bonding the glue has to get into the pores of the wood. When you stained with an oil based product, you sealed some of those pores and thus reduced the chance of bonding. Much the same as trying to re-glue an old piece of furniture by just adding glue to the joint. It will hold but w/o strength.

When I pre-stain a piece I put painter's masking tape over the joint area, this protects the area from being sealed.

Dyes don't have as bad an effect as stain so you may want to use that product on future endeavors.

Thanks Bill, thats what I was thinking. This is a drawer slide, something I didn't think ahead about. I can put a screw and plug it. It won't show except to a sort 3 year old. :)
