A Little Pine Box

After taking a Basic Woodturning course at Craft Supplies a few years ago, I sat around and did no turning for a while. (Recovering, I guess.) I finally decided that I wanted to try turning another box, but I didn't want to "waste" good wood or a lot of it. So I cut a piece from a 2x2 that I had salvaged from the demolition of some built-in cubicles in the office building next to mine, and did my durndest:

I was pretty proud of myself ... but I sure wish I had chosen a piece with no nail and screw holes in it ....

Hi Kerry, I love these lidded boxes, yeah a real pity of the screwholes.
I find pine not so a bad material for turnings, I have a lot of of this stuff in my store.
Take a look to my website, and well to the subject links, and take a look to the website of my girl penfriend Pam Reilly, she's a specialist in making lidded boxes.

Kerry, Pam is really an amazing lady, right now she's writing an article about her mosaics for Woodturning design on request of the editor of this magazine.
And she is a great woodturner too, I think she is the envy of many woodturners. I copied a couple of times a lidded box of her, calling it Pam style boxes, well she have the right feeling in her fingertips.

Great Job Kerry, fitting the lids is my biggest bane, but I think I got that sussed now.

Get yourself some nice dense wood, MUCH nicer to make boxes from than that pine.

Keep them coming!

Hi Kerry ,
That is a handsome little guy, and his little lid too:thumb:.
Might be an opportunity to create a surface design and inset something, pearls, rubies or copper bullets. Maybe get some old bullets from Frank F.
Maybe get some gold from Stu, or maybe get less advice from me:rolleyes:.
Anyway you cut it they "turned" out real nice.
Shaz :)
