Here is a walnut HF I did this last week. It is 3 1/2" high and 6 1/2" across. Finished with antique oil and buffed tonight. The collar is spalted maple and the finial is maple.
You are really getting good at making those finials. I have a short video of Cindy Drozda making a small lidded box with a finial. One of these days I am going to try and make one myself.
Thanks everyone. The antique oil was put on while the piece was still on the lathe. I burnished it with a rag to produce heat and dry it. That is 3 coats and it was dry enough to handle when I parted it off. While I had it is the donut chuck I finished turning the bottom and put the finish on the same way. Let it sit for a couple of days and buffed. Seemed to work so going to try a bowl or something else and see how it goes.
