Shop 'princess'...

DSCN5376.jpg DSCN5377.jpg

I guess cats are immune to the itch of fiberglass...she loves the softness and fluff!

Anyone following my shop thread has already met 'the princess'. She used to belong to the neighbors, but when they moved, they didn't take her with them. She's 'adopted me' to the point that she sits on the rear deck of the house in the morning, waiting for me. As soon as I open the door, she starts off towards the shop, 'heading to work'.

(I'm planning to get a nice LARGE shop dog once the shop is done. Should be interesting to see what the princess does then... )

As long as the dog is cat-friendly, I doubt you'll have any problems after the first week or so. In my experience, cats will accept and get along with a dog much quicker than another cat (unless we're talking littermates). More than likely you'll find the cat sneaking up from behind within a couple of days to smell the dog. Keep the dog leashed when you introduce them and make it understand that chasing the cat is not OK. Eventually you wont need the leash. They'll soon make the distinction between their cat and strange cats and I doubt you'll have any problems.

New additions to the household

Back on October 30 we add this little character to the family. He is an Abyssinian named Travis, and about 4 months old about now.

Travis.jpg

The the newest member is a Bengal named Tex. He is about 5 months old. The Bengal is a cross between the African leopard cat (not a real full size leopard) and an Abyssinian. Tex is at least 5 generations removed from his wild ancestors, and is just as sweet as can be. He has the softest fur of any cat I know of. The breeder also says that they are hypo-allergenic. We call him "jungle cat" for short. Notice the patterned coat and light green eyes.:)

The "boys", as we call them, are healing up from a Wednesday trip to the vet. They had their claws removed both front and back, neutered, and an ID chip installed between their shoulder blades. So there is a lot of easy stepping and foot shaking going on these days. In about another week they should be all healed up. Being kittens, they will heal fast.

I finally got this picture size thing under control thanks to Greg Cook.:thumb:

Sorry, Greg. That was a post in jest. I should have used a few more smileys!!:D There are currently 9 in the house. Ages 7 months to 11 years. All Irish Setters. I'll see if I can get a group shot waiting for supper. Maybe individual shots of my 4. Jim.

This is my first post here at the FW. Thanks for the welcome. Glad to see many familiar names here.
This is my shop cat.

That's a fine way to do a first post, Lloyd. Great pic. Nothing quite like a black cat in white saw/sanding dust, huh?

My Ex and I adopted Tucker, a merle Great Dane after we lost our first sweet friend and could find no consolation for the grief. prettytuck.jpgThen we adopted one more rescue Great Dane, Bishop, mouthful.jpg who was a real warrior and another Great Dog. Now Goldie, a golden retriever, another rescue story lives with me and is very happy with my lay outs, she lays out all the time. Picture of Goldie later.

Ok, this took a little while to find all of these. I'm going to start with my own dogs first from oldest to youngest.
CH Coolmeadow Northern Spy, CD. aka Dalton, back a few years. He is close to solid white in the face now. 11 1/2 years old.
CH Coolmeadow Northern Spy C D.JPG

CH Coolmeadow Cortland, aka Cory. Dalton's litter mate. They are from our first litter in June of 1995
Cory adult low res.JPG

Coolmeadow Twist And Shout NA, NAP,NAJ,OJP,NAC, aka Taz, is the one above in my avatar.

Tainaron Tango at Coolmeadow, aka Tainey, is the pup my wife flew to Florida to get, that is pictured in my shop rehab thread at SMC DSCN1327.jpgon the first page of posts, IIRC. This is how she looks all gorwn up.

Then there are the Resce foster dogs:
Scout DSCN1309.jpg MissyDSCN1308.jpg
RileyDSCN1311.jpg Gracie DSCN1338.jpg and Jullianna.DSCN1335.jpg Jules is probably going to have to have heart surgery next week. Turned into us at 6 months old, we have found that she probably has a hole in the two chambers of her heart that didn't close up at whelping. LOML will take her to Texas A&M a week from tomorrow for the testing, and probable surgery.
There is my brood.
And one last picture of 7 or so out of focus Irish Setters at supper time tonight.DSCN1332.jpg My Digital doesn't have the speed for moving dogs! Jim.

This is my buddy Harley,
I was his forth servant/chef at 3 months( should have picked up on the clue:huh: )
We lasted 3 years. then he wouldn't come home from an old GFs house.
He graces me with a visit every now and then.
We battled over the Alpha male slot at my house.
He's real happy now and I'm happy with an occassional visit.

Jim, those are beautiful dogs. I always like the Irish Setter, they look rather regal. It must be a real job keeping up with them. Do you have a kennel in the back yard, or do they all keep you warm at night?

If A&M can't fix Jules, take a trip up to Alameda East.:)

Meet Zoey, an oldie but goodie. We had to have her right pinkie amputated a couple of weeks ago and she handled it like a trooper – a lot better than I would have!

Ken, no kennels. The young ones have wire crates in our bedroom for when we're gone, and at night until they earn our trust. Right now, all 9 are loose in the bedroom at night. The oldsters are loose all the time.
These guys are our kids, they are our companions, and I couldn't imagine leaving a dog outside anymore. And yes, they do keep you warm on a winter's night!:D
What is Alemeda East? We have talked to the "big" vet Specialists in Dallas/Colleyville. It was this group that removed a kidney from one of our dogs a few years ago. Evidently this is pretty specialized stuff, and no one locally will tackle it. It could be open heart surgery, or it could be something that is inserted into the heart through one of the veins, or it may not be operable at all. That is what the DR. from A&M that comes up once a month that we missed because of the bad weather, will tell us next week. Right now Jules is in her normal position, under my computer chair as I type! Jim.

Here's our zoo. The Airedale is Spencer, my buddy. The English Setter is Lila, the queen. Petie is the old man of the group (14), Mazie is my jungle cat, and Kita is the baby (2).

Love all the pics of the furry kids!:thumb:

Hi Jim. I was showing LOML your pictures and I told her that all the dogs were inside types. She quickly said with a grin, "and you sleep outside.";)

Alameda East is the emergency animal hospital on the "Emergency Vets" program on the Animal Planet channel. It is located in suburban Denver CO. They are a top shelf operation. Last I saw, they had acquired a CT scan machine. One of their frequent cases is the repair of hip and knee joints in dogs, everything from a tiny poodle to a sheep dog. In several programs there have been people from Kansas, and Texas bringing in dogs that can't be 'repaired' other places. They also have a new vet intern program that lasts for a year. For me it is an enjoyable program.:)

My big-boy Saint is failing now :( , but here are he and Missy when they were maybe 12 and 18 months old... after MIssy tore the hose bib off the side of the house and they played in the geyser for about 90 minutes.

Good looking dogs

Kirk, they look like a fine set of companions. It looks like they have a good home that takes great care of them.
