This is my attempt at doing a Mark Cothren style black dyed, natural edged, ash bowl. It's about 12" diameter, 6" tall, dyed with black artisan dye first, then black india ink, then topped with deft satin lacquer. It has a little design help from the bugs and some end grain cracks.

Curt again that is so cool. I bought a airbrush outfit that I am going to try different things with my turnings. Been talking with Steve Russell on this and sounds like fun.

This is really different! Great form but I just can't get over how flat black it is! Like everyone's mentioned already - it looks like it was turned from a large chunk of charcoal and that makes it look brittle! Nice work Curt - seriously nice!

Looks great, Curt! I got the idea from another guy, and I'm sure he got it from someone else, who got it from someone else, who... :D
Back in 1961 when I invented this type of turning, I never figured it'd be as popular as it is today.

Very cool piece, Curt. :thumb:
