I made this box as a spur of the moment gift for a friend. I used a 42" x 4 " piece of 8/4" African mahogany left over from a past project. The top is walnut burel veneer with a walnut pull. Finish is tong oil and shellac. Nothing too fancy but I did get a bit carried away with the profile.

Thanks for looking

Dewayne, that looks super!

Can I be your friend? ;) :D

How do you find the Tung oil and Shellac hold up?

Can we see the inside too?

Thanks for posting!

PS, the background cloth goes great with the Walnut veneer! :thumb:

That box sucks, please send here for proper disposal.:D:rofl: Your freind is truely lucky to be receiving it. Would like to see the inside when you get a few minutes.

Thanks for the comments folks. I didn't photograph the inside as it's simply the same finish as the outside. I am short on time as I will have to deliver this box tomorrow. As for the finish I used shellac at a 1# cut. The shellac coat is buffed with steel wool and two coats of tong oil are applied. This finish has held up well for my other boxes and is easily renewable.
