In the next while, I'm going to be real busy with other things, so I thought I'd better get a few of the chunks of wood I recently got roughed out.

This piece was a crotch from the tree..........

I'd already started to rough it out when I remembered to take some pics

Sure nice to have the VS lathe, so I can sneak up on the best speed to rough it out at :thumb:

As it was a crotch piece, I wanted to show off the wonderful grain in it, that I hoped was there, so I decided to make a nice little bowl.....

Getting more bowl shaped.

Now to the inside.

The piece is 20 cm in diameter (8") so I left the walls of the rough out about 2 cm thick (just over 3/4") and the bottom is a bit thinner than 2 cm.

Here you can see some of the nice figure that was hiding.

A close up

It is now bathing in the DNA, and I'll pull it out in a day or two, wrap it up and turn it in a few months.

I really do not know what to expect with this crotchwood, it might crack and go all wonky on me, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

Cheers!

Thanks guys, it should be fun, I just hope it survives the ride.

The wood is actually in the "Elm" family, but is much softer than the Keyaki I seem to be blessed with

Cheers!
