Sycamore hollow vessel... about 9" wide and about 10" tall. The opening is carved and burned... antique oil finish, then buffed with Carnuba.

Not real crazy about the opening, but I had to improvise after a mishap forced me to do something different. Any flavor of comments are welcomed.

Really nice vessel, Mark. I like the opening a lot. If that is the result of a mistake, then you should make more mistakes cause it turned out great. :thumb:
 
If it had been a wood with lots of grain or figuring that could have looked awful but on plain sycamore it looks really effective. It works well.

I have to agree with Pete, on some woods, the design opportunity opening, would be too busy, but on that piece is becomes an accent and focal point, very nicely done! :thumb:
 
I love the form and the wood, and I'm still on the fence about the rim. It's unique though, and it's likely going to be snatched up by someone who absolutely HAS to have it.
