Below is a picture of a 7" vase I turned from a piece of American maple. My neighbor was trimming his tree and I took a bunch of the wood. Unfortunately the tree had heart rot so everything I turn has a hole in the middle. Good for practiceing though. I used several coats of clear shellac to seal the wood to keep from cracking. Oh, yes, I forgot to mention this is wet wood. I turn on a DVR XP lathe and on this piece I turned at 1500 rpm's. I am always conscience of my speed when turning because a lot of good things or bad things happen if you don't pay attention to speed. Mitch
