Bummer about the Jet. I wouldn't be surprised if you can simply replace the capacitor and have it up and running again.

Ya know you can get drive centers with smaller spurs.
 
Chuck I found a couple of Sorby steb centers that are 1/2". One is a livecenter and the other a drive center. They work great on small projects especially when I start finials.

I had the same thing happen to my Jet lathe. I thought I had fried the motor too, as it was very hot. I just bought a new capacitor (in stock @ Woodcraft, but I forget the price)

It fixed it just fine. I have also discovered, from Woodcraft, that this is not uncommon for these motors. I guess that is why they keep capacitors in stock.
