Missing in Action

updated list!!!!!

well it seems that we are missing some more of the family?????

Mr Downey hasn't been around lately.

Bruce Page hasn't been here either????

the school teacher guy from texas i think Matt Dunlap?????

havn't heard alot from Ad'e Crom either!!! and he was a moderator?????? so whats going on?? the honeys bees seem to be disappearin????:dunno::dunno:

Look at those two guys up on the grassy knoll over there :D

Matt just is not around, I do not know, or remember the exact details of why, but it is nothing sinister.

John was quite upset about a post that, when reported did get pulled, but not before he counter posted with a post that broke the CoC in so many ways it was hard to count, he was asked to edit it, and instead he decided that he did not wish to be a member here anymore and requested his account closed, which we did for him, and we changed his user name, also at his request, as he did not want his name associated with Family Woodworking, which is his prerogative.

Ad, it seems, has also decided to leave, he said he was not able to fulfill the job as a mod, because of time constraints and his trouble dealing with the cultural and language differences, especially in the Off Topic forum.

Larry, no one has ever "Disappeared" here as a result of actions taken by the staff, people have asked to have their accounts closed, as they have decided to no longer be associated with Familywoodworking.

Let me be clear, we do not "Guest" people here.

Bruce Page, well I'm not sure where Bruce is, I'm hoping he is sitting on a beach somewhere enjoying himself.

I'd just like to mention that the posts that cause 99% of the trouble here come in the Off Topic forum, it has been suggested that we should get rid of this forum, I've very much against that, but I will say that sometimes the envelope of what is acceptable to be posted is pushed rather hard, and this does not help, to quote the CoC, which was ratified by the membership, and which you all agreed to follow when you signed up..........

This is the Code of Conduct ("CoC") we expect all members to follow:
  • Verifiable e-mail addresses are required for registration. In an effort to prevent drive-by trolling, no Hotmail, Yahoo, MSN or Gmail accounts are accepted without permission. You are welcome to join if you have no other e-mail address available, but we'd like to get to know you a bit first. Please contact the Webmaster if you have no other address available.
  • Real first and last names are required. Folks tend to be more civil when they use their real name.
  • No cursing, including use of substitute characters as all or part of a word instead of cursing.
  • No posting of porn, nudity or suggestive pictures.
  • No politics, no religion. If you even think it might be considered political or religious, it is. Please don’t post it.
  • Don’t post anything that would not be considered “family friendly”.
  • No commercial ads.
  • No bashing other forums or other members.
  • If you work for a company or an industry that provides products or services for woodworking, you must state that in your user profile, and you must put a note or signature line on your posts so other people know your affiliation.

Emphasis added.

I'd ask you all to please think twice before you post something that might fall under these guidelines, they often cause a lot of extra work for the mods, and strife between members.

to much spirits? or jist old age?

memory loss ???? seems like we should have better records of what or why those who have gone, have so that we the family could work on correcting the cause? we dont want a major melt down like what the elders here, came from.

One thing I am learning is that the old statement "You can't please all the people all the time....." is so true. Being a moderator I have seen and heard people say things that just leave me doing this -->

People get upset over the stupidest things and there is nothing you can do. And I am not sure we want to encourage people that are not happy here to stay. I don't mean this this the way it may come across, but if they are not happy why try to make them stay? My view is if they want to leave we need to let them. The door opens both ways. If they want to come back they can come back. We have never banned anyone on this forum that I am aware of.

As Stu said, more problems have happened as a result of the Off Topic forum than any other. Someone posts 'this' and someone hates 'this'. Then they post 'that' and it turns into a contest to out do the other one. One of them eventually gets mad and leaves because he can't have his way, say what he believes, etc. Trust me, there is nothing we can do about those people.

I agree that I hate loosing people too. Here is a suggestion that would help keep people and make the forum grow. ```More woodworking talk. ````We have a family atmosphere here and I like that. That means there is a lot of off topic chit-chat. I am not against that. But I would love to see more Woodworking talk. I read another forum a lot because I pick up more there than I do here. And that is not a knock against us. But I do wish we would get more into woodworking subjects.

OK that is my Rambling thoughts on this. They are worth what they cost you too.

Matt was unhappy with some decisions that were made by the staff, and after he deleted all his posts and pics, he asked to have his account closed. He took his ball and went home.

I have also been wondering where Bruce is.

I agree Jeff, but in order to do that what is needed is participation, and I feel that precisely is the family atmosphere what makes the off topic forum be so popular. Familiarity equals being at ease, and that allows for those jokes that we all make and take, (within certain limits of course).

On my case, not being familiar with certain expressions or language uses I'm quite cautious in jumping to conclusions. For the same token, as my knowledge of the language still has a lot of gaps I'm ready to apologize when something I said has been badly interpreted because I didn't use the expression properly. Emoticons help a lot to convey ideas when body language is supressed.

I'd love to see more woodworking talk as well, but that depends on all of us, and maybe we are not woodworking as much as we boast of:D Flatwork projects tend to take longer and documenting them is sometimes forgotten or not "feeling like doing it".

I remember some comments to a Shaz's post saying that this forum looks sometimes more a woodturning forum. Maybe because turning a bowl is much faster, but again I think that if there is anybody to blame is all of us.

On my case this is the only forum I visit and participate regularly, I'm registered in a japanese woodworking forum that I haven't visited since I joined this one.

I feel privileged to be here and count with so many friends, that I've never met personally ( but I hope to, someday)

Well... I stop here because I think we are wandering off thread

Tony, (Just continuing on the wandering)

If you didn't mention it, I think most people would be hard pressed to tell that 'merican' (I hesitate to call what we speak, 'English') isn't your first language.

One of the things I like about this forum is that most folks here type like they talk. I like that. Some folks get fussy about spelling and caps and puctuation. Not here!
