A friend wants to make a turned letter opener using only wood. but He can't find any sanding belts here is the original post.
Any help is appreciated.

Since I am such a schlepp at a belt sander, I had an idea. I have an old crapsman band saw that doubles as a belt sander. I feel that I would do much better being able to see the sanding action, as well as having only a 1" wide surface doing the actual work. Trouble is I cannot find a 1"x80" belt anywhere. I'm tempted to go buy one of these http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051& amp;langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100618976&N=10000003+90401+500916 but I don't want to buy a POS. Does anyone either have a source for a 1"x80" belt, or have any info on this little sander? TIA
Any help is appreciated.
