A couple of questions were asked in this thread, in Handtool Haven, about a steadyrest I'd posted. Hopefully the pictures will speak for themselves. If not, ask away. :)

Layout for the square hole was done with the toolrest (indexed)

Sorry, no pic of the 1x8" dowel, but it's in there and the sections line up.

Very slick, Ed. I'm still trying to decide if you were thinking outside the box or within the circle, but either way, I'll have to remember the concept in the event I run into a problem it could solve. :thumb:

And, I have never seen a grinder mounted like that one high on the wall.
Looks higher than it is, Frank. The arbor is at eye level, and with the jig arm rotated down , the bowl gouge handle is out of the way when in grinding. :) Both grinders and the sander hang on french cleats, and can be moved as necessary.

Do you turn telephone posts on that thing? Also is it backward or do you turn from between it and the wall?
I built it to turn bo (6' fighting staff) for karate. Normal use is with back to the wall but, it has a sliding/rotating head so it can be set up to turn from either side.
