Off-Bed Turning

As soon as I get about 500 pounds of sand under my lathe bed, I'd like to do some off-bed turning. I have a couple blocks of wood that are staring me in the face.

Could you wonderful guys and gals post a picture of the tool rest set-up you use when turning large pieces? BTW I have a Jet 1642, if that helps.

I call it "Turning L-A-R-G-E" :D

I've usually heard it called "Outboard" turning.

I have seen some neat set ups, but the best ones, IMHO are ones that are somehow tied to the actual lathe, that way things just sort of "work" together.

Bill Grumbine has some pics somewhere of a rig he built for his (one of his) lathes, that would be something to look at.................
