2021 cutting boards

since everything was sorted out yesterday, it was time to make the rips to width. glue up starts tomorrow, and there will be 24 boards. tested the layout, and end grain pattern.

started the glue up today, after buying 12 new pipe camps, and pipes. never have too many clamps. got 7 of the 10 done, just have to do up some more walnut parts.

got 8, 9, and 10 glued up today. tomorrow, off to the cabinet shop's big sander.

got them back today, nice, flat, and ready to recut...

started doing the recut of the blanks today. got half of them done, and should have 14 finished boards.

board strips sorted out. first 6 glued up, and second set glued up.

last of the cutting boards glued up. now all i have to do, is clean up the squeeze out, and get them flattened.

finished the cleanup of the squeeze out. 60 grit sure makes short work of them. tomorrow, it is off to the cabinet shop to have them flattened. soon, this project will be done.

Those are good looking boards. Where did you get your wood? Seem to recall you or someone else on this site used a mail order shop.

WOW! Take boards make narrow strips, glue together to make a board. Flatten, cut apart to glue together again. Quite the process and quite the beautiful end product. Obviously more steps than a regular cutting board, price double that of a long grain board?

dunno, haven't made any long grain boards yet. i guess i like the end grain better. but, i will be making a long grain board for my nephew in nebraska, soon to be posted.

got them back today, nice and smooth. used the sled (useful thing it is) to clean up the ends on the table saw. all that is left now, is to round over the edges, a quick rub with 220, and lots of mineral oil...

Would it be best to just set them in a tub of mineral oil and let them soak until full?

Been there, done that, and got the 32 ounce sports bottle to go with.

edges have been rounded over, and sides sanded to 220. a little bit of clean up by hand, then the oil.
