OK. So I hate doing plumbing. Every time I try to do some sort of plumbing it turns into an ordeal. Yesterday I attempted to install a new fill valve for my toilet. To my dismay, when I tried to hook up the water supply to the bottom of the fill valve, the existing flanged metal tubing came up too high to be able to connect it. Actually, the fill valve thread came down too low.
Off to Lowes.
I brought the tubing with me so I could get the right size of flexible braided connector tubing to try to get his thing to fit. One of the Lowes guys was in the aisle so I told him what I was looking for. He told me (with disdain) that I didn't need to buy flexible tubing, that all fill valves are adjustable so I should just be able to adjust it so it fit. BS. I went home & the thing IS NOT adjustable. Jerk. This was last night.
Off to Lowes again this morning.
I'm standing in the aisle looking at what I think is the correct size of flexible tubing to use. The one that appears to be the correct size doesn't appear to have enough "give" in it for me to be able to get it to fit. In other words, I wouldn't be able to bend it enough to fit. At this point I'm thinking that I'm going to have to modify some of this tubing to get it to fit. I really didn't want to do that. I must have been standing there for ten minutes trying to figure this out. A different employee from last night senses my confusion/frustration. I explain my situation to her. She says "Why don't you just get a longer tube and loop it around so you have some flexibility to make it fit".
<I'm looking for the smilie with the light bulb over its head but can't find it. Use your imagination.>
Such a simple solution and I was to figure it out.
I don't know why I just typed that whole story. I guess I just wanted to share my joy over getting this problem fixed. Of course, when I install the tubing tonight, I'll probably hit a whole new set of issues.
