Really, I’ve been carrying this vice around for 30 years, just never took the time to attach it to a bench so I could use it. Since the bandsaw is down and I’d rather not sit around on my thumbs, I took the opportunity to glue some plywood scraps together and set up a removable mount.

Got it all set up and felt pretty proud of my 30 year build when I noticed the jaws did not meet at 90 degrees. Bummer.

A quick look in the recycling bin yielded a top from a varnish can.

Four thin strips behind the jaw face and a little filing and the fit is much better. Maybe not the best solution, but a working one.

Well done. I have a small magnetic white board stuck to one of my cabinets that I list "to-do's" on. When I am watching glue dry or have some other sort of work flow interruption I look at it and knock something off the list. This gets those things that often slip my mind taken care of and keeps me from going idle. Devil's playground and all that :D
