Nice 250-200 year old cabinet.full restoration in the works. Saving the original finish. Need to clean the brass moldings and apply new velvet lining and piping.
The old french polish is Garnet shellac, a gray color tone then adding in the aging , yellowing with air dirt being captured every year as the shellac softens durring the summer and attracts the dirt and hardens in the cold months trapping the dirt with in. You don't see this type of damage happening much anymore. Mostly just the yellowing.
