i need a brass thumb screw for a old mortise marking guage..right now it has a 1/4" machine screw.. works but kinda tacky even for me

Go on-line for nautical brassware. When I helped a friend revamp a ChrisCraft; we ordered almost everything on-line. Some things were reasonable; other very expensive, but he wanted everything as near original as possible. That varnished wood and shined brass was great.

Larry I have found them at farm supply's and places like Lowe's, HD and some of the older Hardware stores.

Yeppers, it is. A local hardware store has revolving displays that hold hundreds of hard to find parts. Since they are package alike, I surmise that the display, and parts, come from a source that specializes in this sort of thing. I don't believe that the BORGs would have these because genuine customer service is required from the employees.
