Free wood

Searching Facebook marketplace and Craigslist brings up quite a few listings for free wood. Can anyone tell me why most people cut it up and post it as firewood before listing it? Sure it's good for that and making short live edge shelves and other smaller projects but it seems anything that isn't cut up short still needs to be cut down. 3 to 4 foot long logs would nice.

You might do better by talking to some of the tree service companies. The only problem, maybe, is that when they come into some wood you would want, you have to go there and get it. So, no matter what, you have to drop what you are doing and go get it. One company I knew brought good logs back to their log yard, and sold them at a real decent price.
