I do how ever think your comparison between between Tokyo and Christchurch is an apples to oranges thing. Modern structures vs very old buildings.

While that may be true, both are rich modern societies, and both countries have their share of earthquakes.

Yea but have you seen Godzilla yet?

Seems to be lots of quake activity all around the ring of fire and now here we are even more in the expectation mode. Victoria will follow cristchurch I think when the big one hits and the down town core will see the worst of it with the 130 yr old brick buildings. I am currently working on one with all the mortor just falling apart, but we are told all is good by the engineers. Of course these are people that have not seen sections of the walls and bricks just falling out.
