Here's the way I make them.







Nuts to those goofy little squares of texture.

Edited to add: Here's an example of a square wood grain image offered somewhere as a material for SketchUp


And here's what it looks like when it is applied to a surface larger than the size of the material.



Very realistic, as you can see.

If I was 1/100 th as good at SketchUp as you are---I would think I was so hot that you would be afraid to touch me.

FWIW, I was poking around and came across a collection of small, square wood grain images offered as materials for SketchUp. The ones with almost no grain pattern at all work reasonably well but many are like the example I added to my first post here. I guess if I had to use materials like that, I'd prefer to skip using them at all.
