dumbest critter on earth?

Last night I set a live trap for racoons. We have way too many in the area and they are decimating the turkey population and causing other problems. Well, of course, I caught a possum. Went out this morning and opened the trap. Stupid thing is still clawing at the closed end trying to figure out how to escape. All he has to do is walk out the open end. I'd take a picture but it's raining.
 
I beg to differ. IMO, a possum is dumb, but not as dumb as a chicken. We used to have them growing up, and have had instances where they would let a snake try to swallow them head first and suffocate them. Snake wasn't big enough to swallow them, so just left them there.
 
Turkeys are even dumber--they'll turn their heads up into a rainstorm, open their beaks to drink the water, and drown!!
