Dave must be out riding his bike or something so I'll start the Friday thread. I have to do a resource fair today at one of the posts in our district. We will have a table with information on veterans benefits and be there to anser questions. Then I will head up to Flagstaff for a long weekend to Pam's house. We are going to a Dwight Yokum concert tomorrow night. Sunday I'll just spend some time with Pam's relaxing and enjoying the cooler weather. Monday I drive back for a meeting Monday evening.

I went to the orthopedist Wednesday and was rewarded with good news. My hematoma is on the mend and should resolve itself in another 4-5 weeks.

I no longer have to wear a compression sock or keep my leg elevated above my heart. That doesn't sound like a big deal but have you ever tried getting from point A to point B with your leg higher than your heart.

Actually went to the shop yesterday with a list of projects and started finding, cutting and labeling the wood for future projects.

Today is wifey's birthday. I am cooking dinner for her.

That's about it. Nothing else happening.

Doing the monthly Dragonhorn show with the band tonight so this afternoon will mostly involve packing up and schlepping gear.

Tomorrow evening LOML and I going to dinner with some longtime friends. Wes, who was our band's sound engineer from back in the '80s, is visiting from Nashville (where he now works for Dell), so most of the rest of the old band and I are meeting up with him and his ex-wife (who's his current roommate, lol). The other two band members (Jeff the bass player and Steve they keyboardist) still live here in Albuquerque and we see each other a lot, but we haven't seen Wes since the last time he visited, which was 5 years ago. The four of us old rockers and our wives/girlfriends will be getting together to fill up on New Mexican food and swap stories about the old days. Knowing these guys, we'll probably be laughing ourselves silly the whole time. After his time with our band, Wes went on to run sound for a variety of artists, including Charlie Daniels and Marty Stewart, so he's got lots of interesting stories to tell about those days.

Sunday afternoon the whole gang will be going out to watch another longtime friend (and bandmate from a more recent band) play an acoustic show at another local restaurant, so there will probably be more green chile and reminiscing involved. :thumb:

Crating the last four small projects for shipping to the great northwest. Will drop them off at FedEx on Monday. Working on an urn for a dear friend that passed a few weeks ago. That will ship around the end of the month.

Gearing up for some Christmas items I'll sell on Etsy. Then I have 4 more projects in the pipeline to start around early November.

Also will be setting up some private training sessions with Fletcher. We need a little professional direction in getting him to worry more about what we want and less about what he wants. He has all the basic commands down pat - unless he's distracted. Then its like , "OK, I hear you, but I'm busy right now. I'll get to you in a minute." 🐶

Then there is the annual swarming of the lady bugs to deal with. 🐞 Must have killed 50 in my shop so far today. Hundreds sprayed outside around doors and windows.

got home this afternoon, my sister came up from the villages in florida, didnt want to deal with storm. im happy she decided to stay at her friends house tonight, we just need our own bed and some quiet time. we were up late each night this week, our friends were with us in foxwoods, and we were like kids again,(these are the friends we grew up with, elen knows her girlfriend for almost 60 years Ive known them for arouind 55 years_ and then we woke up each day worse then we ever imagined. but we kept at it, and I gambled plenty, and again, the gods were with me, tomorrow my son is having some cousins over and my sister is here already, my other sister who recently moved up here from florida will be there also, she has not seen my granddaughter yet, nor has my other sister, so it should be a great day. my son will be smoking ribs, how can anything be bad about that. sunday we will see my sister off, Ill take her out for a ny bagel breakfast, and me and elen have alot of small chores to do around house. Ill help a bit in between football games, since Im giving up most of tomorrows college ball.
my son has a massive outdoor screen and wants to show a movie tomorrow evening. not sure if we will stay but the cousins are staying at his house and I know they will love it. he has his pool still open with the water heaters blasting and tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid 70s so Im sure some will enjoy the pool.
monday I contact a real estate agent to start looking for a new home, further out east on long island. Im just a bit frightened to see the asking prices.

I feel your pain, brother. 🤣 In two months of obedience classes we learned a lot and the dog learned a little. He has excellent leash manners, but off-leash and just hanging out in the back yard he's his own little man. He has the attention span of a three year old kid, with a sassy streak like a teenager. Plus, he's just a knucklehead. I lost two full days this past week dealing with the aftermath of him getting on the wrong side of a skunk in the back yard around 3:00 Wednesday morning. He took a direct hit to the side of the face, and although we got finally the bulk of the stink handled (thanks in large part to a suggestion on Facebook from Jon Shively's wife), it'll still be a long time before all the skunk smell leaves the dog, the house, and the yard.

Skunk is one critter I've yet to see around here - or smell for that matter. Possum, racoon, fox, otter, muskrat, coyote, gopher, deer. Some of the smaller guys come into the yard once in a while, but they're skittish and take off if they hear Fletcher come out.

We have a 1 hour phone evaluation coming up in a few weeks with a trainer. From there we will probably go to private lessons.

Yesterday got a load of firewood delivered from a new supplier. Looks like he may become my annual supplier as he delivered a great load to the correct lengths. I have a smaller European style stove and can't really take anything longer than 14". I have had suppliers in the past give me loads that vary from to 12 to 15 inch, basically a lot of offcuts. This load is accurately cut and only varies a little.

Only one problem and it was my fault. When he asked me how I wanted it split, I gave him the wrong dimension and I noticed that many of the splits will need to be split again to make it easier to load into the stove. So I have a weekend of hand splitting the load and then stacking it. It is only one cord and not all will be needing re-splitting. I thought of renting a splitter, but I need the exercise and I kind of enjoy it. We are enjoying a wonderful fall and I love working outside and often taking a break to just look around at the hills and mountains that surround us. Down in the valley below all the haying is done and has been rolled. Some are still laying in the fields and will be soon picked up and stacked for the winter feeding of stock.

Modern gun season started this morning. I had to make a run to town yesterday and it was buried in hunters shopping at the grocery store. At the upper end of our valley which follows the creek up the mountains is a primitive campsite. There was some uncommon traffic up our valley road yesterday to this campsite. Pickups pulling trailers, horses and ATV's. Looking forward to the 20th when hunting season is over and everything returns to the normal solitude.

Rennie, Jarrod used the Bit the Dogs ear to show him who's boss.worked great.
Grabbing by the scruff of the neck (like a mama dog does to a puppy) also works well and keeps your face out of the "tooth zone".

We had another skunk in the back yard last night right after I got home from the Dragonhorn gig. Fortunately, I spotted it through the patio door before I let the dog out. By the time I went and got the BB gun, it had sauntered off into the bushes.

Vaughn I hunted a grass air strip for 25 years. Early mornings before 1st light on the way to my hunting stand walking down the air stip , I'd see these white spots move to either side. I'd just take my time , making a slow walk and never got sprayed. My dog on the other hand lived to roll in dead fish and go after skunks. PU!

Had a skunk in the breakroom at our greenhouse. Never did spray. Never was seen during the day just at night when all was quite. Our night Watchman made a pet out of him and fed him scraps. Had more faith than I had. As a kid I did have some bad encounters with those critters. Got under our house and decided to fumigate the house, Whewww that was a bad deal.
