I mowed the lawn....

Part of your problem, clip the hedges, weed eat and then mow the lawn. No clean up this way!!!! (and if there looks like clean up is still needed, go over the affected area a time or two more with the mower!)
That is a good plan for most grasses but centipede, which is what we have in our lawn, does not respond well to leaving the clippings, no matter how fine, on the lawn.

Not been allowed to mow our grass areas for as long as I can remember; apparently I don't do it neat enough.;)

Did buy the Boss an electric start machine earlier this year when she complained the pull start was getting a bit irksome. :)

My wife used to use a push mower to mow the front yard. I would go out on the front porch and sit in the shade and watch her.

One day she shut off the mower and came over and said, "You shouldn't be sitting there in the shade watching me!"

So I picked up my folding lawn chair and moved to the back porch.

What makes you think she washes the dishes and does the laundry?...
I suspected that line might backfire on me, lol. I can relate, though. I wash more dishes than she does (because I don't use paper plates like she does), and we each do our own laundry. :D
