Memories...Light The Corner of My Mind

The only problem is my mind is not what it once was (if ever), as some memories are turning up to be false. My wife and I are preparing a list of possible items we would like for Xmas. We won't know what the other has purchased and wrapped but we will know it is an item we would like. I was going to put down some Gramercy Riffler Rasps, but wait I already have those. Or do I? I have a vivid memory of holding them in my hand, but yet I can't find them. I only have a small shop area and I have looked everywhere and there are no riffler rasps. I even have a memory of thinking I need to build a rack for them to mount on the wall. False memories?

This is driving me crazy. Have any of you experienced something like this?

You know as soon as you get some new ones you'll think of the perfect place to store them, and when you get there - bam! - the earlier set will be right there.
I have done this. Another wonder of my aging mind is that I will have an absolute memory of what something I am looking for looks like. A blue cardboard box for example. When I finally find it, it is red. This causes me to look past it a dozen times as I become more and more frustrated at not being able to find "it". Early episodes of this sort are part of what triggered me to geek-out and start my spreadsheet of where things are. At first it was just for the attic or outbuildings that were rarely visited. It now even includes my tool boxes, outfeed table drawers, and so forth.

Yup, happens all the time ....

Getting the blower onto the tractor last week - back in, align the 3-pt links, reach up to the toolbox on the rear of the tractor where the hookup pins ALWAYS are ..... not there .... hunt, hunt, hunt for them ..... go buy new pins, and when I bend over to install the new ones .... I see where I had stored the old ones on the tractor last spring ...... used the old ones, saved the new ones.

Yup, happens all the time.

...BTW, what is the average age of the members of the family? Can any mod tell us?
We don't have easy access to the data. Darren or Brent might be able to do a database query to find the answer, but that's definitely beyond my skill level. :)

Based on anecdotal evidence, I think the average member here is somewhere between old as the hills and older than dirt.

Well, I'm only 62, but some of you might have been born before the Dead Sea was sick!
Listen you whippersnapper....I, uh, might have been born before....uh, I know I was born and that is all I have to say about that.

Here's to the ones that we got
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
Of everything we've been through
Toast to the ones here today
Toast to the ones that we lost on the way
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you
There's a time that I remember, when I did not know no pain
When I believed in forever, and everything would stay the same
Now my heart feel like December when somebody say your name
'Cause I can't reach out to call you, but I know I will one day, yeah
Everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody hurts someday, ayy ayy
But everything gon' be alright
Go and raise a glass and say, ayy
Here's to the ones that we got
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
Of everything we've been through
Toast to the ones here today
Toast to the ones that we lost on the way
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you
Doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo
Memories bring back, memories bring back you
There's a time that I remember when I never felt so lost
When I felt all of the hatred was too powerful to stop (ooh, yeah)
Now my heart feel like an ember and it's lighting up the dark
I'll carry these torches for ya that you know I'll never drop, yeah
Everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody hurts someday, ayy ayy
But everything gon' be alright
Go and raise a glass and say, ayy
Here's to the ones that we got (oh)

If I interpret those lyrics correctly we are supposed to drink to bring back our memories. I don't remember drinking helping with that.

I would have appreciated you posted the name of the singer or author unless it was you and you didn’t say it. Those songs may not be as known on the other side of the ocean.

Jarrod asked me this morning where the knife is I made in Gatlinburg last week. I went to where I last remembered handling it and after I applied oil to the blade yesterday. I looked everywhere. As I was sitting at my work table in the front office, Jarrod asked me for a type measure, I reached to take it off the magnet and at once remembered I stuck the knife to the magnet at my backroom work table.

Sorry about that...I never considered that but I will try to do better.

The song is entitled Memories and it was released by the band Maroon 5 in 2019.

There is another song entitled Memory that was in the Broadway musical Cats. It is quite beautiful in my opinion.

Here is a link to a performance excerpt by Elaine Page. I think it is lovely.

Here is another version of the same song performed by Celine Dion. Some think it is the best performance of the song.

Here I thought it was the Barbara Streisand song from the movie "the way we were", 1973.

🎶 Memories
Light the corners of my mind
Misty watercolor memories
Of the way we were
