Told to go home and do nothing

Well, can tell it is deer season again. I can't even climb my deer stands. Right arm went numb about a month ago one night, burnt like fire, fingers and hands numb. Nurse practitioner (regular doc fishing in Alaska) thought it was a pinched nerve and sent me to a spine doctor. She said it was a vascular problem and sent me to another doctor. Today he says it is out of his realm and is sending me pronto to a vascular surgeon or something. With my arm above my head I have no pulse in that arm, very faint pulse with it below my heart. He said, "go home and do nothing, if it hurts, get to the ER yesterday". Been splitting two loads of wood for the past few nights. So I am going to go to school, just won't be helping with fabrication of projects for a while I guess. Anyone ever have this or heard of this? Coagulation or something of some sort. What a bummer again.

Oh boy. Let's hope the next doc can fix you up. I'd be on pins and needles waiting for the appointment. I've had numb hands and fingers after a lot of hard hand work like splitting wood...turned out to be carpal tunnel. I guess that pulse thing makes it a whole nother ball game. Better take it easy for sure until they can figure this out.

Jonathan I would get to the doc asap if you can. YOu remind me of a friend of mine this past week that broke a bone in his shoulder while coaching highschool football. He is a real good guy but I think donkeys and mules are less stubborn than him. He sent me the Xray and has a broken bone, but thinks physio is going to heal it. Between his wife and I we have done everything we can short of me knocking him out and dragging him into an emergency room. Its one thing to be a tough guy but as we age we have to recognise our physical limits and be prepared to have things looked at.
You no use to Mom, Pop, Lou, Kids and grandkids if you broken.

Forget the work load and school get to the doc and take it easy till you get it sorted, there is only one of you. Remember you an example to others that look up to you and you don't want to be passing on the incorrect example. Please man get to a doc that can deal with it.

Usually a coag issue won't present like that Jon. Agglutination does though...that can be ugly! Get it fix whatever it is!

Been waiting around for the phone call. Lou Ann finally called, the nurse was very surprised and upset we didn't hear back. She just called, no one in their office or the office I was being referred to want anything to do with me even though they "don't know" what is wrong. So they set up an appointment for next Thursday at University of Chicago. Have to have a CAT scan done before then. She did emphasize I was to stay home and "lay low". Oh, have been home yesterday and today as my principal asked me yesterday how my doctor's visit went and when I said what he said, she (the principal) said, "what are you doing here? You are going home." So now am home next week also. Watching the snow march East and half of my wood is done. Oh well, the other half is here, the boys are willing to help, I'm just not willing to ask yet. Cabin fever, stir crazy, call it what you will, when I hear of people with no jobs living on welfare, I don't have it in my dna to live doing nothing. Typing also drains the blood out of my hand so am trying to only read not type, so got to go for now. Thanks for the words of wisdom.

Mandatory taking it easy is like torture for a guy not used to taking it easy. Here's hoping those University Docs can get a grip on what ails you and get you back to the wood pile before winter decides to stay.

Cannot diagnose but obviously not a good situation. Don't try to tought it out. See docs as soon as possible until you get a good diagnosis. Sometimes figuring out those things can be tricky. We have a friend whose son plays on a state university football team. Big, tough guy. Last year the muscles in one leg started shrinking (atrophy) to near nothingness, just skin and bone. The university was very good to him and took him to several hospitals and specialists but none could figure out what was happening. Very scary situation. Finally at an out of state hospital one doctor found it was a pinched nerve and treated it. Muscles came back and he is back playing football again. Docs are good but the human body is still very mysterious. Good luck. Keep us informed. BTW, I have missed a couple hunting seasons for health and family reasons and know how depressing that can be. Hang in there.

Jonathan,

Get the CAT scan and/or a MRI. You really have to get to a major medical center like the U of Chicago. Local doctors just to not have the experience with the rare. Major facilities do. They are telling to not use the arm. Listen to them. Do not let the stubborn mule branch of your genetic pool dominate your actions. Once they have it properly diagnosed then they can correct it. All on FW want you better quickly.

Jonathan, If this is true...we may be related:rofl::rofl::rofl:

My brother from another mother!!!!! I will tell ya, held Little Jon for just a little while, patted his butt with my right hand and didn't take long for it to go numb and start hurting. Quit taking my Aleive and found the shoulder does have an ache and it does hurt at night. Can't believe how much I am sleeping, so Allen must be right. Anyway, CAT scan with dye Monday, dr. appointment in Chicago Thursday. Josh put the bale spears on the tractor and opened the heavy gate so feeder calves are fed for another two weeks. Just watching it rain, oh, just got back from going out for coffee with mom and dad. Pulled in the drive and one NICE buck and two does in the front hayfield. At least got to see some deer!

Jon,

Please behave. Do like the successful real estate people do, PUSH, PUSH, PUSH. Nothing will make help be there for you like push. Everything tries to slow real estate processes (taxes, insurance, government offices, paper work, etc. etc.). You are running into a bit of the same situation. If you don't push you will get things like: The doctor can see you on the 20th of next month, then you get there and the doc says somethilng like, "This isn't within the realm of my specialty. You need to see a _______.) Whatever the things are, they will eat up your precious time---Be the squeaking wheel!

You are in my thoughts!!!

JimB
